Surveys coming...
6 months ago – Tue, Aug 26, 2025 at 06:34:43 PM

We don't have official ship dates yet as we're still approving the many many many pieces of 3 different 500+ page books at the printer, but it's moving pretty fast and it's looking pretty pretty great AND we have locked down fulfillment for Europe at a significant discount from US shipping costs and consequently will be able to put up surveys in the next week and get everyone squared away on finalizing their pledges. We'll also be opening our pre-order store and will give you guys access to a lot of your soon-to-be-favorite-stuff for anyone who wants to add those kinds of things to their orders.

WATCH THIS SPACE. (no not literally, you can close this email)

DRIFTER IS FINALLY DONE (gasp)
7 months ago – Mon, Aug 11, 2025 at 01:35:20 PM

Today over 500 finished pages went out FINALLY to the printer to be printed, proofed, and then shipped to all of you.

The design took SO much longer than we anticipated. Our award winning designer Tom asked us to blame him, and we absolutely will.

Ok maybe we shouldn't kill him yet. This took him a lot longer than he thought it would, and the only reason is he wanted it to be perfect. This is supposed to be the definitive version of this work forever, and maybe we were too ambitious with how long forever would take to build.

The book is absolutely stunning. We've asked our printer to do their best to expedite the process, and to keep us apraised with visual updates so you can see it as it comes to life. We've also committed on our end to proof and approve everything as quickly as humanly possible so that they never stop moving.

BUT: this is a complicated build, 2 die-cut hardcovers, a softcover, a slipcase, and the printers are in asia, and so no matter how fast we all go, there's gonna be some waiting. We're very sorry that's the case, but I promise the book that arrives will be the best thing we've ever made. And that we won't ever rush anything at the expense of what gets to you.

I'm trying to push the printer to get it before the Holidays, but I won't know until they start moving tomorrow how much time we can save.

Here's a look at some of the finished design. Thank you for being patient.

An even briefer update
8 months ago – Tue, Jul 15, 2025 at 12:13:03 PM

Hi folks- as soon as we have a fulfillment option locked in for our international backers we'll send out surveys.

It's possible we can do US/CA in the meantime and open preorders for both, will try to look into that today or tomorrow.

If anyone is worried about tariffs, thankfully books are not currently affected. So we're just looking for cheap shipment options. If anyone has a shop they know in Europe that might be interested in fulfillment, drop us a line.

Tom is locking down design. Here's a peek.

A brief update
8 months ago – Tue, Jun 17, 2025 at 07:58:14 AM

We try not to inundate you guys with superfluous updates when there isn't a whole lot to show yet because frankly the process between funding a book and printing a book is pretty boring, but here's a brief update:

We're building the book, we have dummies of each edition and I took some pictures of the Lux next to a normal sized book by my very talented pals so that you can get a look at this ridiculous beast. The real book will actually be very slightly thinner since they got the pagecount wrong, but you can see the eye cutouts and the case and if you look real close you can see the ribbon bookmark bound into the Lux editions. We didn't do the edge staining because it was expensive to do on a dummy and while we're occasionally silly people, spending money to edge stain a blank book seemed like an unreasonably silly use of resources.

One note: I realized after the fact that one of our assets said the edges would be stained BLACK specifically, while the Lux editions will be edge stained we haven't chosen a color yet and the edges will actually be stained whatever color we think looks coolest when we finalize the design in the next few days. We probably won't post another update until there's a physical printed book to show you, so if you have any questions, feel free to message us.

OH! Also, important, we're still working on fulfillment options for Europe to offset shipping costs, but I promise those will be as inexpensive as the world allows.

Here's the dummy, thank you all for being a part of this crazy thing.

A brief but capitalized Thank You.

Yesterday our campaign ended, at something like 725% funded, with pledges in THIRTY ONE countries (!!!) and SO MUCH encouragement all over our socials, in our emails, here in the comments. We all took a minute behind the scenes to shake hands and catch our breath (in my case, to eat a tiny cup of gelato at a neighborhood spot I've been saving for this occasion.

(I'm in a tiny town in the south of Italy, writing another thing you will hopefully see eventually. But that's not a conversation for today)

Anyway, this morning we're nailing down the print run, discussing arrangements for book fulfillment in Europe to hopefully mitigate some of the shipping costs. (Note, I said hopefully, no promises, but we're sensitive to the issue and definitely trying to figure it out)

The point to this message is we're enormously grateful for what you've done for us, this book is our dream and we can't thank you enough for making it real.

On behalf of myself, of Nic, of Tom, thank you for everything.
